Trying to write one of these on my phone. I wonder how much I’m going to have to fix later?
Anyway. Let’s take a return trip to Smuckers’ unnecessary PB&J developments.
What I knew
It’s peanut butter and grape jelly in the same jar. Always seemed kind of pointless. But Uncrustables seemed pointless too and I kind of dug them?
Honestly, there’s no “kind of;” I bought two more boxes since that post, both strawberry and grape. Haven’t tried the Nutella chocolate flavoured hazelnut spread varietal yet but it’s only a matter of time.
What I know
Lightning didn’t strike twice. This stuff is trash.
The idea is cute. The stripes in the jar look visually appealing. But it ends there. To get both substances to coexist, the texture of both is off. The peanut butter is extra dry; the jelly, extra gummy. Plus, one of the things they really nailed with Uncrustables is the peanut butter to jelly ratio. Here, it comes down to luck and where you dig your knife in. You get what you get. Or you spend too long ensuring precision, sacrificing the purported convenience in the process.
I see the appeal, I guess, at least from a space-saving perspective. Two things, one jar. That’s one less than two jars! But it’s not worth the dip in quality or the loss of flexibility.
Goober Grape is unnecessary but dang, that’s a good name. I can understand coming up with the name and feeling that the product needs to exist. I could just google it, but what do they call the strawberry kind? It can’t be what I assume it is.
I googled it.
