Uncrustables

A red box of peanut butter and strawberry Uncrustables.

The concert review is still coming, I promise. Someday.

I’m on a Discord server where people talk about foods and snacks and stuff. Recently, a few of those folks tried their first-ever Uncrustables and I became inspired. Would it be better if I was more easily inspired by other things? Probably yes.

What I knew

An Uncrustable is a frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Specifically, a “sealed crustless sandwich” according to Wikipedia. When I first saw them, I thought they were the stupidest things I’d ever seen. God bless America. But it’s been over 25 years and they’re still around – and now available in Canada. So what the heck. God bless Canada.

I went with peanut butter & strawberry “spread,” eschewing the peanut butter & grape and “hazelnut spread” (bootleg Nutella) variants.

What I know

These are great. I’m ashamed to admit that but here we are. They really nailed the ratio of bread to peanut butter to legally-we-can’t-call-it-jam.

Is it worth buying a mass-produced frozen version of the easiest thing you could possibly make yourself? That’s between you and your god. I’ll probably get them again, but they’re also an easy way for me to have a full-gluten sandwich at home, which is normally more trouble than it’s worth.

There’s a musician with my name. I’m not him. He’s probably seen The Godfather.
